ruby and charlie ((angela, too))

i am so excited to share these photos that i had to take a break from the last of my vacation picture-posting! i'll finish that up soon, but, in the meantime, meet ruby and charlie.

just want to say, i love these kids, and their mom, angela [okayandtheir dad, clint, too. :-)]. we have the privilege of being friends with this incredible family, having met soon after we moved to british columbia three years ago. ruby is my "marriage baby"; she was born the day marks. and i were married. and charlie, seven months older than my own bebe., is one of charlottes.' favorite buddies [he was born with awesome hair and angela maintains that for him ;-).]. we've loved being a part of their lives and are incredibly blessed to have friends who are so generous and hospitable to us... there have been many a night where marks. and i have kept angela up too late, eaten the last of her baking or candy [marks.], or solicited camera- or business-related technical support from clint [me.].

i have had many opportunities to shoot portraits of these kids... ruby is a bit of a muse; i'm always inspired by her! she is amazing in front of the camera, not to mention a beautiful girl [i hope charlottes.' hair is something like ruby's when she grows...]. but, these portraits stand out as favourites [at least until next time.].

props go to angela for styling this entire shoot*. we collaborated on a few ideas [i suggested the treehouse and car, and provided the funny glasses.], but, angela was the mastermind behind everything else. she made most of what the kids are wearing [even the mustache shirt!], created the circus tent, and styled the tea-party picnic!! she's so creative and it was great fun working together to create something special for clint's father's day gift.

*not every mom has this interest or ability and that is okay! that is what makes every person, family, and portrait session different. i love creating scenes such as these, but, in the end, it was about capturing ruby and charlie. the purpose of each element was to bring out the personalities of the children, and any mom can help do that during a shoot as they interact with their kids, keep a positive attitude, and try to relax and let this photographer do her job ;-).

i am fascinated by people who create extraordinary living spaces. while on vacation last week, we passed this unique home. of course, it was the only time in the week that i didn't have my camera!! so, on our way home last saturday, marks. took a small detour for me to document the "woodcarver", because he is wonderful like that, and i just have to share!
